BRIAN ALDISS’ CANCER MEMOIR TOPS SECONDHAND BESTSELLER LIST THANKS TO DESERT ISLAND DISCS
(Victoria, BC – 6 February 2007) Science fiction author Brian Aldiss’ 1999 memoir, When the Feast is Finished, came from nowhere to take the No. 1 spot on the AbeBooks.co.uk list of bestsellers for the week ending February 4.
The sudden surge in popularity can be attributed to a recent appearance by Aldiss on BBC Radio Four’s Desert Island Discs. Aldiss, well known for his prolific contributions to science fiction and mainstream fiction since the 1950s, wrote the book as an account of his wife’s battle with terminal cancer.
The AbeBooks.co.uk bestseller list gives an insight into the secondhand, rare and out-of-print titles that are in demand this week in the UK.
Dirk Benedict’s Confessions of a Kamikaze Cowboy - also a cancer memoir concerning his use of a macrobiotic diet to beat the disease - remains on the AbeBooks.co.uk top 10 for a third straight week following his appearance in Celebrity Big Brother.
